The grandstand jockeys
The first EP of the Grandstand Jockeys, To win, arrives June 18. His first single, “Better Days”, is a nostalgic call to good times past, giving hope for their eventual return. The song is particularly timely in the wake of the lifting of numerous COVID-19 restrictions: “It’s time to start, now is the time / Get started. The Grandstand Jockeys’ Facebook page describes their sound as a mix of Tom Petty, Nirvana and QOTSA, but “Better Days” first got it written all over the place.
Timbre Coup’s latest single, “Running Always”, is an indie rock track that sometimes dives into prog and funk. The song’s rare lyrics contrast with its vast and sometimes trippy soundscape, filled with an electric guitar that wouldn’t seem out of place on OK Computer. The Albany quartet will release their fourth studio album, Sudden urge, June 25.
Indie-pop singer-songwriter Ciarra Fragale’s eponymous EP will be released on July 2. Described by Fragale as “a love letter to my anxiety (and yours),” the single “It’s Only Raining” isn’t so much about time. than the stressful hypothetical situations that our brains create for us. Fragale’s voice is effortless yet passionate, and the choppy keys will stay with you long after listening.
