NEW ULM – Children and the New Ulm Municipal Band debuted “New Ulm, New Ulm” the anthem during a special concert by the group in the grand finale on Sunday at German Park.
The hymn written by North Carolina-based composer Philip Biedenbender from New Ulm includes lyrics by his mother Laurie F. Gauger.
Gauger’s words are “(New) Ulm, your beauty fills our heat. We stand and sing to honor you, from the shining peak in the sun to the clear blue rivers.
“With a German name and heritage, our proud, courageous and free founders poured their souls into brick and stone to build a strong community.
“New Ulm, New Ulm God bless you now so long ago. New Ulm, New Ulm forever, may we call you home.
“(Hi) Hermann fighting on the hill. Hi, Goosetown where the rivers flow. Hail, Turner Hall and the Glockenspiel. Hello, Flandrau, where the flowers grow. Ein Prosit at Oktoberfest, polka dancing the night away, Ein Prosit at this community now raise your Gemutlichkeit glass.
“New Ulm, New Ulm. God bless you now as long ago. New Ulm, New Ulm forever, may we call you home.
