Ahead of the release of their highly anticipated EP, Year Of The Snake, the Canadian duo are back with some new music.
Softcult has carved out a name for itself as a group to watch. In their latest creative adventure, the duo wrote a track recognizing the value of being authentic to yourself.
Explaining the purpose of the track, lead singer Mercedes Arn-Horne explained the meaning of the single.
“We wrote Perfect Blue about a time in our life when we felt like nothing was under our control. In our previous project, we were signed with a label that creatively hit us and didn’t didn’t allow us to express ourselves authentically, ”she says.
“They weren’t interested in the music we were making at the time, so we became obsessed with trying to make them happy to release anything.”
Twin sister Phoenix explained Perfect Blue’s intention, “It felt like we were playing a role to survive. We didn’t feel like our art represented us. There were a lot of things we wanted to say, but it was hushed up. We felt like we had lost our integrity. The song is a reminder to empower yourself by standing up for what you believe in, or risk losing yourself completely. “
Taking Twitter to break the news, Mercedes revealed the song is about “changing for others and getting lost in the process”.
