Spirited, an upcoming film musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, has added three new songwriters in addition to the previously announced Pasek and Paul. The film is set to star Ryan Reynolds as the reinvented Scrooge and Will Ferrell as the Ghost of the Christmas Present.
Variety reports that the film has added emerging writers Sukari Jones, Khiyon Hursey and Mark Sonnenblick, who will join Pasek and Paul to write the original music for the new film.
Spirited is slated to air on Apple TV + during the 2022 holiday season.
The cast also includes Octavia Spencer as Reynolds’ colleague of Scrooge; Sunita Mani will play the ghost of Christmas past. Daddy’s Home writers Sean Anders and John Morris write and direct.
The classic story of redemption has seen many film adaptations, including Bill Murray’s vehicle, Scrooged, and the classic MUPPETS musical tale of 1992.
The tale was also given a musical makeover by Disney legend Alan Menken and Tony Award-winning lyricist Lynn Ahrens in a production that premiered annually at New York’s Paramount Theater at Madison Square Garden from 1994 to 2003.
A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a cranky old man and local creditor who receives a visit from the Three Christmas Spirits to remind him of the people and events that shaped him, shed light on his moral flaws and predict his future. inheritance after death if he does not learn to love his neighbor.
