Megadeth’s Davied Ellefson kicked out of group over grooming allegations
Megadeth has announced that bassist David Ellefson is no longer a member of the group following the preparation allegations against him.
Now his former band mates have released a statement confirming that the musician has left the metal band.
Dave Mustaine, singer, guitarist and co-founder of the group, said on their behalf: “ We are informing our fans that David Ellefson is no longer playing with Megadeth and that we are officially separating from him. We do not take this decision lightly.
“ Although we don’t know all the details of what happened, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible to move forward. ”
They added, “ We can’t wait to see our fans on the road this summer and can’t wait to share our brand new music with the world. It’s almost over.
It comes after the group, also made up of Kiko Loureiro and Dirk Verbeuren, previously said they were “ aware ” of the allegations against Ellefson and would “ monitor developments closely ”.
The group added, “When it comes to creativity and business, we all know each other.
However, there are clearly aspects of David’s private life that he kept to himself. As this situation evolves, it is important that all voices are heard clearly and respectfully. We eagerly await the revelation of the truth.
This is the second time that Elefson has left Megadeth – the musician was with them for 19 years until 2002 when they disbanded. The group got together quickly but without Ellefson who had a royalty dispute.
Ellefson responded to the grooming allegations in a statement released on May 10 and said the images were taken out of context.
“ While not something I’m proud of, it was about private interactions between adults that were taken out of context and manipulated to inflict maximum damage on my reputation, career and my family, ” he said.
“The other party involved made a statement which you can see below. I thank her for doing so and hope this will clarify that the situation was not at all as presented.
He also shared a statement from the woman involved, saying she wanted to share her side of the story “ because people are sharing misinformation and the situation is getting out of hand without the truth being out there. ”
She wrote: ‘Yes those video calls did happen but I was the one who made them and I was never a minor, I have always been a consenting adult. Nothing inappropriate has ever happened before that. Everything was consensual, I am not a victim and I was not the least bit cared for because it was I who initiated it.
“ At the end of the day, everything was consensual and everything online. I don’t know how it got to this point, but a lot of information is being left out by people who are deliberately trying to harm him. I would ask anyone sharing these personal private videos or any misinformation about them to stop. ”
Ellefson and guitarist Mustaine formed Megadeth in Los Angeles in 1983. Ellefson married Julie in 1993 and they share two children.
