Songwriters on Stage showcases some of the state’s top songwriters and up-and-coming talent in one of Maine’s best listening rooms. May’s Songwriters on Stage lineup includes Stan Davis, Halley Elwell, Dan Pelletier and Andrew Thomas.
Stan Davis decided to play guitar at age 12 after attending a Pete Seeger concert. More than 50 years later, his finger-style, slide and electric guitar playing spans blues, ragtime, jazz and folk music. A lifelong storyteller, he writes original and heartfelt songs about the lives of real people throughout human life. Stan has released three CDs of original music; his latest, “All They Know,” is a collection of musical stories about love of all kinds, perseverance, gratitude…and housekeeping. Named “artist to have on your radar in 2022” by Maine Edge’s Mike Dow, Halley Elwell’s music “provokes nostalgia, but also stands out for her fantastic vocals and well-crafted lyrics” (Aimsel Ponti, Portland Press Herald) . His 2021 EP, “The Last of What I Know,” pays homage to the sounds of late 1960s and 1970s songwriters and was streamed on 207’s WCLZ Music and WERU.
Dan Pelletier has received 15 national songwriting awards and honors, including first prize at the 2002 United States Songwriting Competition for lyrics. “..charged with equal parts pain, hope and humor – touch the tender, secret corners of your soul.” – Marilyn Rea Beyer, former director of the WUMB radio program, Boston.
Andrew Thomas is a singer, songwriter and keyboard player from central Maine. Working in a wide range of styles, his influences range from classic rock and R&B to contemporary indie pop, with an occasional jazz twist. Lyrically, his songs can be autobiographical, impressionistic, witty or serious, but always honest and real. His music has been broadcast from Maine to Moldova and has earned several nominations for the Maine Songwriters Association’s annual song contest. He is currently completing a full follow up to his EP Stars on the Ceiling, visit athomasmusic.com for details.
