First video: Jimmy Montague – “Long Long Lonely”
Posted: by The Editor
Jimmy Montague has the lineup. As Perspective’s bassist, A Lovely Hand To Hold – the jazzy emo elastic number whose latest album, Lousy, is a brand for the band and the genre – Jimmy twirled around in unbuttoned animal print shirts and tinted sunglasses, keeping him funky in every way imaginable. His solo music has a much more understated swagger. Inspired by Paul Simon and Simon and Garfunkel, he creates impeccably arranged and singing pop airs and ballads. At the time of the release of his latest album, The afternoon light, I spoke with Montague about his influences and the classic writing that fuels his work, which you can read here.
The video of the live session of “Long Long Lonely” taken from his new album Occasional use shows how far Montague’s craft goes, stripping songs of a voice, a guitar, and some orange peels on a table. The bones of the song shine, once again demonstrating Montague’s kind of skill as a songwriter.
Chillwavve Records has a very limited pre-order merch bundle: shirt, cassette and lyrics book. There are only 10 available, but if you’re reading this, it might still be time to grab one. Watch the video for “Long Long Lonely” below.
