
Cold War Kids marks its first leader on BillboardThe ranking of alternative songs from, as “First” goes up from 3 to 1 on the Nielsen Music-based mailing list (as of September 12).
The alternative rock group, formed in 2004 in Long Beach, Calif., Had already recorded six charts between 2007 and last year, reaching 22nd place with “Miracle Mile” (2013). The band first entered the list with 2007’s “Hang Me Up to Dry” (No. 26).
“First” is taken from Cold War Kids’ fifth studio album, Hold my house, released in October. “It’s super rare for a song to become No. 1 a year after its release,” the group marveled on Twitter Tuesday. “Praise goes to the fans who have been with us for years, at shows that sing along and tell us your stories.
“Besides, the song is called FIRST, so it had to be # 1, right?”

On Hot Rock Songs, “First” climbs from 11 to 9, also marking the group’s first top 10 on the airs, sales and streaming list. The song reached a new record (n ° 3) on Rock Airplay (11 million radio audiences, up 9%); gains 7 percent to 10,000 sales, marking its best selling week; and increases 13 percent to 664,000 flows in the United States.
Now with a new Number 1 to play, Cold War Kids continues their tour, with dates scheduled until October 29 at the House of Blues in Boston.
