Aeolian Hall is calling on local musicians as it hosts its first annual songwriting contest.
The competition follows the designation of London, Ontario as a UNESCO City of Music. The performance venue and creative incubator say the songwriting contest is a way to support the local music scene, which has suffered during the pandemic.
“Let’s invest in our music community in any way we can during this difficult time, showcase its creative talent, and celebrate its recent designation as a UNESCO City of Music,” said Clark Bryan, Executive and Artistic Director of Aeolian.
London songwriters are invited to record an original song in any genre on the theme of London, or love, beauty and home. Submissions can be audio or video.
Entries will be judged by music industry professionals, with three prizes up for grabs.
First place will receive $2,000, a professional recording at Aeolian’s studio, a multi-track video recording to be released as an Aeolian Phoenix Session production, and a live performance, promotion, and industry consultation.
Second place receives $1,000, professional recording, multi-track video recording, marketing and industry consultation.
Third place will win $500, a professional recording, marketing, a photo shoot and a professional consultation.
Submissions are open and will be accepted until March 31, 2022.
