BMI Atlanta’s Vice President of Creative Catherine Brewton was named one of Billboard’s Top Women Executives during a March 2 ceremony at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. Brewton was recognized for her work and impact on BMI’s subsidiaries and her many achievements during a record year for the company. She has been instrumental in signing and retaining many top R&B, hip-hop and Gospel songwriters and producers, including names such as Nas, Kanye West, J Cole and many more. She led a new diversity, equity and inclusion task force within the company and contributed to the search process that led to the identification and hiring of BMI’s DEI Director, Sandy Taylor. Beyond his accomplishments on behalf of BMI, Brewton is also a founding member of the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame in Atlanta.
Many BMI affiliates were also cited for their incredible contributions. Singer-songwriter Gabby Barrett was honored as this year’s Rising Star, Doja Cat received the Powerhouse Award, Karol G received the Rule Breaker Award, HER won the Impact Award and Saweetie received the Game Changer award.
Beyond the honors, the event featured moving live performances, including a heartfelt rendition of Karol G’s “El Barco”, an intimate reading of Doja Cat’s “Alone”, a dazzling version of Saweetie’s “Closer” and an unplugged, emotional spread of Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope.”
