American singer-songwriter Jake Scott tours Hawaii for open-hearted video ‘Meet My Shadow’ –
With nearly a decade of musical creation, singer and songwriter Jake Scott found success from his 2013 album. Of life, of love and of desire. Since then, the Arkansas native moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and has quickly made great strides with each release, along with writing sessions for artists such as Jason Mraz, Carrie Underwood, and Aloe Blacc.
Between January 2018 and 2020 – just before the pandemic took full effect – Scott was releasing a single every month with huge streaming success, including songs like ‘Tuesday’ in 2018, ‘Favorite T-Shirt’ (which makes part of his 2019 album Year of the sunflower) and “Like No One Does” in 2020. Scott says via email that the release plan has helped him build an following and improve his songwriting and production skills. He adds, “It helped me find my ‘sweet spot’ in music and I’m so glad I chose to do it that way. But by the end of third year, I wanted to be able to tell a story longer than one song at a time.
He is now preparing to release an eight-track album Goldenboy on June 25 and the latest on the EP is a cheerful and heartfelt electronic / pop cut called “Meet My Shadow”. In the lyrics, Scott navigates being candid with a significant other about “parts of yourself that you’d rather hide.” The summer song also receives an appropriate music video, in which Scott is seen on a Hawaiian beach, walking and also stranded on the shore as the waves move past him. “Rachel (my wife) and I were at a wedding in Maui and decided to stay a few more days and shoot the video while we were there because… it’s Hawaii, why not shoot a video in Heaven! ” Scott said.
Goldenboy is described by the artist as an introspective record, drawing inspiration from a year spent in lockdown that led Scott to take a long look at himself. “I started to see patterns in my life that held back the people closest to me and ultimately kept me stuck. There was a part of me that had become very good at being all I needed to gain acceptance from the group I was in at the time, but I never really let anyone in. I nicknamed this part of myself the ‘Goldenboy’. This whole EP is all about realizing, accepting and ultimately letting go of the Goldenboy. A story told in eight songs, ”he adds.
The months ahead in 2021 will also include time in the studio to create another EP due out later this year. Scott adds: “And then we will have our first child in August!” So I’m going to get ready to meet my daughter!
